Bus Exchange CIS at Leicester

Passenger information displays have been designed and manufactured by Infotec for two of Leicester’s bus stations as part of a project to redevelop public transport hubs in the city.

The latest information systems for passengers, which Infotec is supplying by working in partnership with Vix Technology, are an important aspect of the redevelopment - part of a multi-£m scheme to increase capacity, reduce queuing and ease congestion in the city. A dozen large summary P1177W displays have been manufactured for Haymarket station in Charles Street while four doubled-sided P1064 LED displays have been created by Infotec for St Margaret’s bus station.

These are a popular choice for use as summary of departures (SOD) or arrivals (SOA) displays for main board or concourse applications. In addition to the displays for St Margaret’s, Infotec is designing and manufacturing bespoke brackets by which they will be supported here. Engineers have used the very latest 3D CAD software, in which Infotec invested several £thousand earlier this year, to assist with this.

Infotec has worked with Vix Technology for the Leicester project, part of which has been made possible by money from the Department for Transport’s Local Pinch Point Fund. Work on the bus stations, part of Connecting Leicester, is scheduled to be complete byMay of next year. The bus station work is the latest through which Infotec is helping to keep the travelling public in Leicester up to date and on the move; last year the Ashby-de-la-Zouch based manufacturer provided main board and platform passenger information displays for Leicester Railway Station as part of a contract that saw scores of displays installed at east Midlands Trains stations across the network.

Infotec has regularly worked with Vix Technology, with previous projects including providing summary boards and platform displays for Castleford bus station earlier this year; manufacturing over 150 real-time information displays for bus passengers in Bradford, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Halifax and Leeds; and supplying displays for 200 Centro bus shelters in the West Midlands.
