Displays transform Scotrail passenger services

Dozens of Scotland’s smaller stations are having passenger information displays and IPH3 terminal servers designed and built by Infotec installed over the coming weeks.

Displays transform Scotrail passenger services

The arrival of the screens will transform services for customers, as many of the locations, which include Balmossie, Blair Atholl, Dunkeld, Inverkip, Kilpatrick, Summerston and Yoker, are unmanned and have never had electronic information displays before.

In total, 111 of Infotec’s P1124 LED next train indicators are being installed and three P3025 landscape 19” summary of departure TFTs, the latter going to Cutbridge Central, Kingussie and in the waiting room at Wemyss Bay.

The displays will become increasingly useful as timetable enhancements being introduced by Transport Scotland and Scotrail in 2018 will see significant increases in services at some of the stations.

Infotec’s three-line LED platform displays have been widely used for rail, tram and bus applications; offering versatility in a ruggedised enclosure. The example in the photograph above is at Luton railway station. They are available in six formats, with those going to Scotland being the medium double-sided specification.

Most of the 63 stations receiving displays as part of the £400,000 order from Scotrail are also having IPH3 terminal servers installed to deliver data to the units where cable runs of over 100m are necessary.

While it might seem that information at lower footfall locations is less important than at busy ones, since these stations are likely to have fewer services, correct and timely information is vital. Providing better information is an important way of increasing the viability of the station for more passengers.

Delivery of the displays and servers is underway, with completion of shipping scheduled for the end of October.
